Where to eat in Leros, restaurants and taverns

In small taverns scattered on the beaches as well as in elegant restaurants you can appreciate the rich cuisine of Leros. Bellow we list some of the best restaurants in Leros.

Psaropoula

Psaropoula, the most famous restaurant of Leros located in Panteli. Fresh fish right where the waves break, with a tradition since 1962 run today by the son of Anastasis, Apostolis Karpathakis. Must try the shrimp pasta and the fish soup. All food is coocked by the owners wife, excelent traditional greek and local cuisine. Shrimp saganaki, soutzoukakia ( meatballs in sauce with cumin) , Moussaka, Pastizio and Giouvetsi are among the local specialities.Beach chairs and umbrellas are offered free of charge to customers.

Patimenos

Another popular restaurant of Leros is the one of  Patimenos ( El Greco).  It offers excelnt local and international cuisine. Grilled meats in clay oven, pork chops and fillet mignon with mushrooms. Salad of the house with local cheese and selected veggetables. Some of the best greek wines and tastefull deserts cmplete a real feast at the beachfront of Panteli.

Pyrofani 

For the fans of fresh fish and all kinds of sea food the restaurand Pyrofani in Panteli is the place to be. Daily the owner of the restaurants imports freshly caught fish from the local fishermen. Among its specialities are grilled breams and largs shrimps, stuffed calamaris and excelent taramosalata and tsatsiki.

Dimitris Karaflas

Dimitris Karaflas, in Spilia: One of the most popular restaurants famous for its meze plates. Enjoy evening with views to the whole bay of Vromolithos. Try the stuffed squids, grilled fish and greek salad.

Aloni 

Aloni, in Xirokampos (photo): Built on an old threshing floor, there you will try local recipes with meat or fish, while you will also enjoy swimming on Xirokampos beach (prices: 15 to 20 euros per person).

Petrino

Petrino, in Lakki: Beautiful restaurant in a warm environment, with French and Greek cuisine. His specialty is the chicken a la creme souvla (prices: 20 to 30 euros per person).

Ta Kroupia

In Agia Marina the souvlaki restaurant Kroupia is the most popular for its Gyros. Right on the beach fron you can have the opportunitty for a cheap lunch, souvlaki on skewer or with pitta, bifteki and of course Gyros with fried chips and tsatsiki.

The souvlaki shop in Platanos

One of the oldest souvlaki shops in Leros in Platanos its name is Yparho. Located right at the top of the square and it grills traditional greek souvlaki on wodden scewer. Favourite among the foreign residents of Leros who they love spending their afternoons drinking bier and retsina at the tables outsite of the shop.

Koulouki

Koulouki, in Lakki: In Lakki you will find the three Kouloukia, three sheltered bays with clear waters. In the first Koulouki you will find a tavern with cheap and delicious fish, while in the third you will find two taverns with delicious stews.

Milos

Milos, in Ag. Marina: Next to the old windmill, in Mylos, in addition to fresh fish, you will find  shrimp pilaf, octopus meatballs and seafood pasta. The restaurant though is highly overprised and the service is adecuate.

Thraka

For your lunch, if you prefer something light, the ideal choice is Thraka in Lakki. For lovers of gastronomy there is Petrino in Lakki

Gurna restaurant

Gourna on the beach of the same name with the possibility of ordering food to your liking early, the restaurant Alinda in the settlement of the same name with excellent food at affordable prices and of course the fish tavern of Sotos with fish of the hour, next to the sea, in Drymonas.

The View Cafe

At the picturesque windmills, below the Panteli castle, you will find the View cafe. There you can enjoy your afternoon coffee or eat your ice cream with a view of Pantelio Bay. An equally good choice for your coffee is Roussos Square in Platanos.
